1890s 18K Gold Lady’s Pendant Watch

Late 19th century French Lady’s pendant watch in 18K gold

An elegant late-19th-century French lady’s pendant watch in 18K gold, dating from the 1890s and signed “Wiese”. Jules Wièse is regarded as one of the finest goldsmiths of the 19th Century. His work was highly sculptural, often featuring figures which could be either human or mythological in nature, many with a definite Gothic overtone. In 1880 his son Louis (1852-1923) assumed control of the workshop having been trained by his father. Examples of Wièse jewellery can be found in major museums worldwide including the British Museum and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. The watch is accompanied by its original-style chatelaine, creating a particularly charming and wearable ensemble. A fine example of Victorian-era craftsmanship, with the decorative detailing and proportions characteristic of the period.
